“Awake to Dream” ha un doppio significato. Sogniamo mentre dormiamo. Tuttavia, al fine di realizzare i nostri sogni nella vita, sia la mente che il cuore devono essere svegli. È così che è iniziato il concept di questo album. Eppure, la mia visione divenne sfocata quando il mio cuore si allontanò … In questo capitolo troviamo Reis insicuro di se stesso e incerto sul suo futuro. Una relazione che durava da più di un decennio – sparita in un batter d’occhio. Reis offre il suo sforzo emotivo di angoscia e perseveranza. Catturare sentimenti di solitudine, angoscia e disperazione tradotti attraverso la sua musica. Sembra che una delle lezioni più difficili della vita sia ancora da perseguire: il “perdono”. Collaborando attraverso le visioni di Mark Grieves Reis è riuscito a ritrarre la storia di questi eventi malinconici. La copertina rappresenta “l’Amore” nel suo senso più vero: due figure sedute insieme su una panchina fatta di tasti bianchi e neri di un pianoforte che si tengono l’un l’altro in un abbraccio amorevole mentre una delicata rosa riposa tra di loro. Il retro-copertina racconta invece una storia molto più solenne. Ancora una volta con due figure, solo che questa volta sono separate. Una delle figure è in ombra e batte sul vetro di una finestra mentre l’altra è seduta di fronte, in uno stato di reminiscenza. Entrambe le figure in questa scena rappresentano Reis. La figura in ombra fa del suo meglio dall’altra parte per svegliarlo dall’oscurità che lo avvolge. Durante questi tempi difficili, Reis ha cercato il più possibile di restare fedele al concetto originale dell’album, mantenendo il livello di coscienza necessario per perseguire i suoi sogni. Esibendosi al fianco di molti suoi colleghi in tutto il mondo, Reis è stato in grado di trovare “un senso di appartenenza”.
L’artista
Nato nel maggio 1991, Reis Taylor Dixon è pianista e compositore originario di Birmingham, nel Regno Unito. Reis mise le mani per la prima volta su un pianoforte all’età di 16 anni. Inizialmente suonando musica popolare ad orecchio, in seguito un suo insegnante introdusse Reis alla musica di Ludovico Einaudi; non aveva mai sentito tanta bellezza prima. Reis eseguì “I giorni” di Einaudi nella sua prima esibizione nella città di Birmingham. La reazione del pubblico quel giorno fu sufficiente per confermare a Reis che avrebbe voluto inseguire quella sensazione per sempre. Nel 2010 si è iscritto a un corso musicale alla Coventry University, questo gli ha dato la possibilità di testare ulteriormente le sue le capacità. Senza una vera preparazione, Reis si è trovato a immergersi nelle grandi profondità del repertorio performativo, eseguendo pezzi di grandissima difficoltà, da “Tristesse” di Chopin a “La Campanella” di Liszt. Dopo la laurea nell’inverno del 2013, Reis riportò la sua attenzione alla composizione di musica “classica emotiva”, così nel febbraio 2016 lanciò il suo album di debutto “Words Unspoken” alla Birmingham Symphony Hall. Il lancio fu un successo e il suo album ottenne l’attenzione internazionale portando Reis a entrare nel gruppo di artisti di Whisperings Solo Piano Radio e Enlightened Piano Radio. Nell’ottobre 2018, Reis si ritrovò a seguire le orme di molti dei grandi artisti prima di lui mentre saliva sul palco della Philharmonie di Berlino, esibendosi come parte della cerimonia di premiazione degli Enlightened Piano Radio Awards. Si esibì anche alla Passionskirche di Berlino al fianco di Christoph Pagel. Reis Taylor Dixon è ora pronto a rivelare il suo secondo album “Awake to Dream” che è stato per lui un vero banco di prova. Questo album racconta della perseveranza con il fine di continuare a perseguire i propri sogni. Reis ha già portato in tour alcune anteprime di questo album con esibizioni sia a Oslo, in Norvegia che ad Atlanta, negli Stati Uniti. Esibirsi in Georgia, davanti a un pubblico composto da artisti del calibro di Robin Spielberg e Philip Wesley, è un ricordo di cui Reis farà tesoro per sempre. Reis è ora riconosciuto da molti dei suoi colleghi in tutto il mondo, sa quali sono i suoi obiettivi e immagina dove vuole essere in futuro, ma sa bene che tutto questo è ancora solo l’inizio per lui.

Album description
Awake to Dream is a double entendre. We dream while we sleep. Yet in order to fulfill our dreams in life both our mind and heart must truly be awake. This is how the concept for this album began. However my vision became blurry when my heart walked away… In this chapter we find Reis feeling unsure of himself and uncertain of his future. A relationship spanning more than a decade – gone in the blink of an eye. Reis delivers his emotional endeavour of heartache and perseverance. Capturing feelings of solitude, anguish & despair all translated within his music. It seems as though one of life’s hardest lessons is still being pursued: ‘Forgiveness’. Collaborating through the vision of Mark Grieves; Reis is able to portray the story of these melancholy events unfolding. The front cover represents ‘Love’ in it’s truest sense – two figures sat together on a bench of black & white piano keys holding one another in a loving embracing whilst a delicate rose rests between them. The back cover however tells a much more solemn story. Again featuring two figures, only this time they are apart. One of which is a shadowed figure tapping on a window pane whilst the other is sat facing away – gazing down in a state of reminiscence. Both figures in this scene represent Reis. The shadowed figure trying his hardest from the other side to wake himself up from the darkness that envelops him. Throughout these challenging times, Reis stayed true to the original concept of this album, maintaining the level of consciousness needed in order to pursue his dreams. Performing alongside many of his peers worldwide, Reis was able to find ‘A sense of belonging’.
The Artist
‘Self-trained classical pianist and composer Reis Taylor Dixon makes his ambitions known as he takes to the stage of the Berlin Philharmonie Kammermusiksaal’. Born May 1991, Reis Taylor Dixon is a pianist and composer from the heart of Birmingham, UK. Reis first laid hands on a piano at the age of 16. Originally learning by ear playing popular music, a teacher later introduced Reis to the music of Ludovico Einaudi; he had never heard such beauty before. Reis later performed Einaudi’s ‘I giorni’ in his first of many performances at the Birmingham Town Hall. The reaction from the audience that day was enough to confirm to Reis that he wanted to chase that feeling forever. Reis enrolled on a music performance course at Coventry University in 2010, this gave Reis the chance to test the capabilities of his craft. Without real preparation, Reis found himself diving head first into the great depths of performance repertoire, reciting pieces of great magnitude from Chopin’s ‘Tristesse’ to Liszt’s ‘La Campanella’. After graduating in the winter of 2013, Reis turned his attention back to composing ‘emotive classical’ music, and in February 2016 Reis launched his debut album ‘Words Unspoken’ at The Birmingham Symphony Hall. The launch was a success and his album went onto gain international attention bringing success to Reis’ early career, featuring on both the artist rosters of Whisperings Solo Piano Radio and Enlightened Piano Radio. Jumping forward to October 2018, Reis found himself following in the footsteps of many of the great artists before him as he took to the stage of the Berlin Philharmonie, performing as part of the Enlightened Piano Radio awards ceremony. Reis also performed at the Berlin Passionskirche later that month alongside Christoph Pagel. Reis Taylor Dixon is now ready to reveal his second album ‘Awake to Dream’ which has been a real test of character for him. Throughout this album we witness Reis’ heart break into a thousand pieces as his relationship spanning more than a decade is gone in the blink of an eye. This raw album captivates sheer perseverance through it all in order to continue pursuing his dreams. Reis has already teased previews of this album with performances in both Oslo, Norway and Atlanta, USA. Performing in Georgia to an audience that consisted of the likes of Robin Spielberg and Philip Wesley is a memory Reis will treasure forever. Reis is now recognised by many of his peers around the globe, he knows his goals and visualises where he wants to be in the future but admits that this is still only the beginning for him.
